UNITED DEMS of WESTERN WISCONSIN DINNER - June 1

Join your Democratic friends and neighbors at the 2008 Western Wisconsin Democrat's Unity Dinner and be entertained and energized by well-known Progressive Activist Ed Garvey.  Garvey, one of the founders of Fighting Bob Fest, will speak on the topic "Now it's Our Turn"; how we can win in November on the local, state and national levels.  He will show how, as a proven activist, a small group of people can create a Progressive movement of thousands.

This year's event is being held at Ready Randy's Sports Bar & Grill (directions above) will feature a buffet dinner and dessert.  You will be able to seek out bargains at a silent auction, be eligible for prize drawings and as always hear short appeals from our current slate of candidates for the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate.

To register, call the Hudson Campaign Office at 715 381-9600 or send an e-mail to sccdp@att.net with your name, phone number and how many people in your party.

The idea of Fighting Bob Fest was born in 2001 when a group of 10 activists gathered in the Wisconsin Dells on a Saturday morning at a local restaurant. Veterans of the successful battle to stop Perrier-Nestle from taking Wisconsin's spring water and ruining the ground water and wetlands in the process came together to find ways to carry the victory forward into other arenas and to help other citizen groups that were trying to protect the environment against corporate interests. All too often, citizens mobilize only after it is too late.

The idea of a Chautauqua on citizen action grabbed center stage. Someone said, “Let’s name it after our most famous hell raiser, Fighting Bob La Follette.” La Follette fought for democracy and economic fairness; he busted trusts, railed against the robber barons’ control over the political system, called for open primaries, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance and the idea that universities should benefit the communities in which they reside. He thought people and ideas should rule instead of Big Money.

Fighting Bob Fest was born.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."  Margaret Mead
